Abstract

Ionic liquids (ILs) are a type of salt that has recently attracted a lot of attention because of its outstanding thermal stability, low volatility, and exceptional solvation capabilities. There are numerous chemical and industrial processes that can benefit from ILs because of their many favorable features. the effects of ionic liquids on chemical processes, especially as environmentally friendly solvents, catalysts, and carriers of various substances. The usage of ILs can reduce energy consumption and hazardous waste while improving selectivity, response rates, and operational sustainability. Their ability to dissolve both polar and nonpolar substances has numerous uses, including electrochemistry, biomass processing, and catalysis. The article goes on to discuss the current research underway to find solutions to the problems associated with ILs, including their price, toxicity, and non-recyclability, as well as their performance in industrial settings. This section of the article focuses on the role of ionic liquids in developing greener and more efficient chemical processes that may find use in renewable energy, medicines, and petrochemicals.
