New Writing and the Questions of Modernity: Between the Western and the Arab Concept

Abstract

This study examines the concept of new writing in both Western and Arab literary criticism. It aims to compare the philosophical and critical foundations that shaped this concept through the writings of Roland Barthes, Julia Kristeva, Jacques Derrida, and Adonis. The study adopts descriptive-analytical and comparative approaches. The findings reveal that Western criticism conceptualizes writing as a productive space for meaning and textual plurality, whereas Arab criticism reinterprets these ideas within the cultural context of Arabic literary modernity. The study concludes that new writing represents a modern critical project founded on creativity, openness, and the transformation of literary discourse.
