The Endings of the Seven Mu‘allaqāt – A Descriptive and Analytical Study –

Abstract

This study aims to examine the endings of the Seven Mu‘allaqāt by investigating the extent to which they achieve the quality sought by classical critics and conform to the general pre-Islamic literary taste. To this end, the study identifies the dominant theme of each Mu‘allaqa and considers its formal aspects as well, in order to determine whether the ending is appropriate to the subject matter. It then evaluates these endings in terms of both form and content.
